Although we have a full time news and research department that tracks security and 
private police officer injuries and deaths, the total number of deaths is unknown due to a lack 
of accurate agency reporting, media omitting names, and misclassification of job titles.

JANUARY – DECEMBER

MARCUS MCDONALD, 20
LOS ANGELES  CA
Was working uniformed security at a fast food restaurant when he heard two people yelling in the parking lot. Upon investigating, McDonald was shot in the chest by one of the men, who police say were arguing over drugs. McDonald was unarmed. Marcus was 20, and a full time college student. He leaves behind his mother, three brothers and a sister. The suspect has been arrested.

An unidentified man dressed in a security officer’s uniform was found in a van that had been set on fire. The van which was totally involved in fire was parked at the Homewood Suites Hotel on San Houston Parkway. Police are investigating this as a possible homicide.

MELBOURNE  FL
A campus officer was found dead at the Melbourne campus of the Florida Institute of Technology. Police and Sheriff officers are investigating the cause of death and as of press time, the officer’s name has not been released.
WILLIAM P. WOZNIAK, 51
SPRINGFIELD  IL
A private security officer working at the State House at the Illinois State Capitol was gunned down in September. Police say that the suspect opened fire at officer Woznick with a shotgun. Woznick was a 51 year old father of two. The suspect has been arrested.

DALLAS  TX 
An unarmed security officer was killed in a shooting at an adult bookstore. Police said that the 65 year old officer confronted a robber, and was shot as the suspect fled the store. No arrests have been made.
JAMES DAVIS, 31
INDIANAPOLIS  IN
Davis was an officer of the Butler University campus police was fatally shot while questioning a suspicious person on campus. Davis, 31, found the suspect loitering in a building where the Butler women’s basketball team was practicing. Police later found the suspect and he was shot while trying to escape.The officer was shot in the head.
