Steak theft lands man in jail on multiple charges

GASTONIA, N.C. Feb 9 2014– A Gastonia man is behind bars, after police say he shoved a clerk in an effort to steal steaks.

The incident happened at the Food Lion on New Hope Road around 7:30 Thursday night. According to a Gastonia Police report, Edwin Barr, 28, “concealed food items – and as he was leaving pushed a store clerk.”

One pack of Porterhouse Steaks and one pack of t-bone steaks were recovered from the incident, according to the report. Barr has an extensive arrest history within Gaston County. He was arrested twice last year for assault, again in 2012 for DWI.

Barr is now facing charges of shoplifting, assault, and resisting an officer. His bond was set at $6,000.
