Security officer praised for action during Fremont bar shooting

Freemont CA Feb 2 2014 Police in Fremont were crediting a security guard with catching suspected gunman at a bar early Saturday morning.

The shots rang out just after 1 a.m. at the doorway of the El Camino Real Bar on Niles Boulevard.

It’s still not clear what led to the shooting, but police say a guard at that bar helped them get the shooter behind bars

“There was a security guard that had detained our suspect,” said Fremont Police Sgt. Matthew Bocage. “Officers took him into custody and we’ve recovered a weapon.”

Investigators taped off the bar and interviewed witnesses.

No was injured in the shooting, and the suspect’s name has not been released.

Police said the bar has been open for years and there have not been any recent problems.
