West Palm Beach FL Aug 13 2013 One person is in custody after the attempted robbery of an armored car near the Bank of America in suburban West Palm Beach this morning.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies say the attempted theft by one or possibly two people happened around 8 a.m. in the 86-hundred block of Okeechobee Boulevard.
Deputies swarmed a neighborhood on Springfield Drive after learning a suspect was in the area.
“I saw a young gentleman standing on the sidewalk and a car and police yelling at him to do different things to make sure there was no gun,” a witness said.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken into custody.
During the attempted heist at the bank the suspect or suspects fired at guards who managed to get away without being hurt.
The FBI is now the lead agency in the investigation.
