Arlington Asst. Police Chief arrested following domestic disturbance call

Arlington, Texas Nov 18 2013– Arlington Assistant Police Chief James Hawthorne was arrested following a domestic disturbance call at his Arlington home in 6100 block of Sea Island Trail on Sunday morning, November 17, 2013, at approximately 1:00 a.m. The 28-year Arlington Police Department veteran was off-duty at the time of the incident. According to an Arlington Police Department press release, Hawthorne has been placed on administrative leave pending criminal and administrative investigations. “I am deeply disappointed that an Arlington assistant police chief was involved in an incident of domestic violence,” Arlington Police Department Chief Will D. Johnson said in the press release. “Regardless of who you are or where you work, domestic violence will not be tolerated or ignored in our community.” Just yesterday, Saturday November 16, 2013, Hawthorne participated in a 5K/10K race at River Legacy in Arlington, Texas, to end domestic violence. A picture of Hawthorne with Chief Johnson and other police and family members was shared via the Arlington Police Department’s Twitter account at approximately 8:00 a.m.
Hawthorne was charged with assault/bodily injury of family and released on a $1,500 bond. Hawthorne serves in the Community Support Bureau and has been with the Arlington Police Department since 1985.
